Galvanized Steel Pipe
The galvanized coating that is applied to steel allows it to be protected from oxidation and rust, which ultimately prevents the deterioration of the steel pipe. Galvanized structural pipe is typically used for indoor projects to transport liquids, such as water, but it can also be used for certain outdoor applications, such as protective ballards. The protective quality of galvanized pipe is created through a hot-dipping process that completely coats the steel in zinc. The zinc then provides a sacrificial layer that will rust away before any of the steel is affected. In totality, a galvanized steel pipe can last well over 100 years, depending on the amount of corrosion exposure.

Beneficial Qualities of Galvanized Structural Pipe
Galvanized pipe maintains a wide range of beneficial qualities that allow to be used in highly corrosive environments. The semi-smooth, zinc finish of galvanized steel pipe provides a layer of protection that is not seen in other types of protective materials. Some of the main advantages of galvanized structural pipe, include:
Protects against corrosion and rust
Increased structural longevity
Overall enhanced reliability
Affordable protection
Easy to inspect
Less repairs
Rugged toughness
Protected by advanced ASTM standardization
The galvanized coating process protects the underlying steel from encountering corrosive elements that could deteriorate the steel and ultimately weaken its structural integrity. Galvanized steel pipe is also easier to maintain than standard painted pipes that are required to be recoated every couple of years.
Galvanized Steel Pipe Standard Applications
Galvanized pipe is an excellent choice for numerous applications and processing techniques. Some of the common applications for galvanized steel pipe, include:
Hot and cold liquid transportation
Ballards
Exposed environments
Marine environments
Railings
Fencing
In addition, with the proper protection galvanized pipe can also be sawed, torched or welded. Galvanized structural pipe is the ideal option for numerous types of applications where corrosion resistance is an absolute requirement.
Galvanized Steel Pipe and Other Custom Steel Options
At Totten Tubes we carry a wide range of steel pipe options for your specific project requirement needs. Our custom steel pipe options are constructed from the finest steel grades and are available in several sizes. Our steel pipe options include the following:
Carbon Steel Pipe
Carbon steel pipe provides numerous benefits that make it highly useful for applications such as the conveyance of gas, oil or other types of fluids. These pipes can be used in buildings, machinery, or irrigation systems. The benefits of carbon steel pipe, include:
Shock resistant
Extremely safe
Increased tensile strength
Cost-effective
Corrosion resistant
Advanced recyclability
Stainless Steel Pipe
Stainless steel pipe resists oxidation, making it a low-maintenance solution that is suitable for high temperature and chemical applications. Since it can be easily cleaned and sanitized, stainless steel pipe is also desired for applications involving food, beverages and pharmaceutical applications. The benefits of stainless steel pipe, include:
Easy to machine
Easy to sanitize
Low-maintenance
Superior corrosion resistance
Seamless Steel Pipe
Seamless steel pipe does not contain any welded seams and is manufactured through a heating process that starts with a solid piece of round steel billet and ends with a pipe without seams. Seamless steel pipe is used for ship building, nuclear device, gas, petrochemical and boiler industries. Some of the added benefits of seamless steel pipe, include:
Shape uniformity
Superior load strength
Increased pressure ratings
Added reliability in extreme hot and cold environments
